John and his crew did a great (and quick) job moving our stuff into a large POD. When it turned out the POD was actually much bigger than we needed, John redistributed our stuff for better balance without a complaint. I'd happily hire John again.

This weekend John and Derrick move us out of a 3rd floor walk-up apartment in Ann Arbor. It was a sweltering day and in addition to furniture we had hundreds of textbooks. They were amazing! They arrived on time, hustled every minute and had the job done quickly. They were careful with our belongings and packed our trailer with skill. (I think the trailer I rented was actually too small but they made things fit.) John is really professional--he is easy to contact and returns phone calls promptly. I highly recommend Big Guy For Hire and will certainly use them again myself.

I recently utilized the Big Guy to unload a moving truck I had arriving from Florida. John and his helper wasted no time getting the truck unloaded. They also showed great care in protecting my belongings. I highly recommend them.

John and his 2 workers help us pack a 3 bedroom apartment into 2 containers. They were friendly, proficient with their time and careful with our belongings. We have used several movers in the past and find John's work exceptional. His rates were reasonable and he came prepared with tools to dismantle some furniture. We highly recommend his service and would work with him again.

We have a Home Staging company where sometimes we need help moving furnishings to storage, from room to room, etc. Big Guys have done that for us twice - showed up clean and on-time - and worked without taking a break until they were done. They didn't waste my time, or my money. I would definitely recommend their services. (posted by the owner of a2homestagingconsultants.com)

This was the 1st time I used a "flat fee by the hour" moving contractor instead of itemized quoted movers. Being an experience movee, I knew that it would only take 3 hrs tops to move and budgeted accordingly. 4 1/2 hrs later, the move was completed. In addition to that cost, you have to rent your own truck. During the move, I had end tables with a few things in the drawers.....they were promptly dumped out on the floor before moving to the truck, instead of securing the drawers closed or asking me to put the items in another box. Arriving at the new house, I had a large piece of furniture going into the semi-finished basement for the purpose of storage/laundry table. They tried to talk me out of it because of the "smell" down there. THE BASEMENT WAS DRY!! It didn't smell....I just think they didn't want to move it. Very unprofessional. I advised friends against using them and now I'm voicing my opinion here as well. Be aware. >NOTE FROM BIG GUY: We recently got this review from an Angie's List member regarding a job she says we did 3 years ago, but Im convinced we never did any work for this person. We have no record of her name or the locations she gives. We dont do shoddy work and we are never impolite to our customers.<

John and his assistant were very efficient, took good care of my stuff, and were also very nice. They also charged by the hour, so I didn't need to book them for more time than was necessary (I only had a one bedroom); and they were honest about how long they thought it would take. I would definitely recommend them to others and use them again if I'm in the area.

I have hired John and his helper twice now within the same year - September of 2009 and December of 2009. They moved my gigantic armoire and all my furniture. They were timely, professional, courteous and took great care of my things. I would recommend this service - no question!!! The rate was very reasonable and they did not charge and arm and a leg for a truck - I got that for them, they drove it and just charged me for the hourly labor. They were speedy, didn't drag along to milk the clock and even skipped lunch! Luci‎

Schedule with caution! I used Big Guy for several moves; 4 to be exact. It was the 4th and last move that kind of went south for us. We moved to MI in 2007 and this was the year that he started his business. He's a good guy and he works hard. It wasn't until the final time that we used him did we run into a problem. I had a gun safe to move along with the rest of the household items. The safe is heavy around 500# so I totally expected to pay extra for this and paid his piano rate. I however expected that the safe would be moved from point A to B, B being into the room of our house where it was to reside. In trying to move the safe, we got the moving truck stuck as it was January, so the safe was put into the garage where it was unusable to me. He said he would finish the job the next week, but then called and cancelled out on me saying he would only do it if I rented a truck with a ramp this spring when it thawed and we could drive around our house from the garage and unload it into the basement. I figured this was ok at the time, though I knew we could move the safe with my truck by just tilting the safe into the bed and then sliding it in and doing the opposite at the basement. He wasn't open to other ideas and I was trying to save money. I contacted him in the spring and said I was ready to move. At that time he asked if my yard was solid. He wasn't open to other ideas and I was trying to save money. I contacted him in the spring and said I was ready to move. At that time he asked if my yard was solid. Well I wouldn't have told him I was ready to move the safe if my yard was a mud mess like most. At that point I didn't bother to get in touch with him until after the weekend when I moved the safe completely by myself with no incident without even the use of my truck or any truck. I then let him know that I didn't need to get the safe moved as I had done it myself and asked that the next time if he could give me a break on the next moving service we might need. At that point he broke loose and said that he considered that the move of that safe was done as far as he was concerned and he owed me nothing. He stated the move was from A to B, the garage being good enough for him. If that was truly his stance back in January, then I wondered why he even bothered to offer to finish moving it from the garage to the basement. We have a walkout basement so no stairs were needed to get the job done. He also moved a 60 gallon upright air compressor for us which only needed to go from garage to garage so the move was easy, but he didn't strap the compressor on the moving dolly and it got away from him and nearly fell on him. He brought that up again saying it was a 500# compressor. The compressor weighs 270# and again I've moved that compressor myself. I hire moving people so I don't have to lift a finger yet I ended up being asked to help several times which I don't mind, but being that he knew what needed to be moved in our case since he had moved us before he should have suggested 3 people to move and he should be more of a problem solver to get some of the moving done instead of just putting a safe in a garage and calling it good. The final Coup de grace of his last email to me was the following: "You can tell me what its like all you want. Ask yourself this question: Who has done 1000 moving jobs, you or me?" Big guy, being the moving expert should be able to think outside the box and come up with optional ways to move things other than what he's always done. I reminded him to be careful jumping to conclusions not knowing other people's backgrounds. I grew up on a several thousand acre farm/ranch so am no stranger to thinking outside the box and getting things done that others think are impossible. Hence the reason I was able to move a 500# safe by myself with no help. So schedule with caution. If you just have the normal household items I believe he's a great mover and quick and reasonable. If you have awkward or heavy items I would recommend to stay away or make it very clear what you expect for the move and come upon an agreement before the work starts.>RESPONSE FROM BIG GUY: We do things the safest way possible. We insist on a truck with a ramp to load and unload very heavy items. We did not want to chance injury or liability by taking your 500 pound safe down a muddy hill on the side of your house.<...
